Kingsport woman accused of beating husband with bat

Published November 4th, 2009 | 13 Comments

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport woman is accused of beating her husband with a baseball bat after he tried to stop her from leaving their home in his SUV because she’d been drinking.

According to a Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office report, Robin Martin, 43, 4609 Bel Air Lane, got the keys to Curtis Martin’s SUV and tried to leave the residence after an argument about bills.

When he tried to stop her, she took the keys out of the ignition and hit him with them, Curtis Martin told police. Curtis Martin said he was knocked down onto the carport, and while he laid there his wife went inside and got a baseball bat.

Curtis Martin and his son both told deputies that Robin Martin struck him with the bat several times. When she stopped, father and son retreated into a bedroom in the residence.

Curtis Martin suffered cuts to his forehead and the top of his head, the SCSO report states.

Deputies caught up with Robin Martin in a green Ford Explorer on Fort Henry Drive near Hammond Bridge. She smelled strongly of alcohol and was unsteady on her feet. Robin Martin said she’d had an argument with her husband and that there had been an assault.

She was then taken into custody. At the jail, police said she performed poorly on field sobriety tests and a test revealed she had a blood alcohol content of 0.11.

Robin Martin was charged with driving under the influence and aggravated assault.

Don't count on it. I know many men who were charged simply for defending themself.

One woman was arrested for trying to stab her boyfriend in the back but when the jailer saw a bruise on her wrist she was released and her boyfriend arrested for domestic violence. It did not matter the bruise was there because he grabbed her arms to keep her from ramming a knife into him.

Another man was arrested after a woman who was a total stranger to him attacked him and was punching and kicking at him and he hit her...once to stop her. No charges were placed against her.

i can give you many more examples. I can also give you examples of women who have attempted to legally murder their ex....by cop.

Some may feel this is not a bad idea..but in reality it makes things more dangerous for everyone including women and we can thank a one sided VAWA for this.

women can ''get away with murder'' but if a man slaps one in self defense,he gets charged something seriously wrong here.....!!!

Last month was domestic violence awareness month. Almost everything I heard during this month was about men abusing women. It would appear that this report is one reason why.

I have talked to several men who have reported something very much like this but they did not get beaten for trying to stop their wife or girlfriend from driving while drunk, they were arrested for touching her to do so. At least this man did not get arrested BUT I do not see anyone calling this domestic violence....although IT IS!

I also wonder why she was not charged with attempted murder knowing that she will plea bargain down the assault charge to something like spitting on the side walk.

Then maybe her husband will refuse to press charges and they will let her off all together, but if this were reversed, there would be a no drop charge thanks to a one sided Violence Against Women Act which protects only HALF the victims of domestic violence at the expense of the other half.

Have a little sympathy for the poor guy she hit. He didn't hit her back and could have gotten away with knocking her down in self-defense. Its hard enough for men to come forward and report things like this because of the comments and heat they have to take from others.

This is a fairly nice neighborhood area. Times are getting tough and it brings people under stress to do things that one would not ever dream.

I remember driving dad to the hospital after mom busted his head with a coffee cup for messing around where he should not have been.

He never messed around again.

Good Lord I really can't take it anymore. It seems like we could fill up the stupid crook news for years in just a few days around here. Wake up people, the lower end of the gene pool is dragging us all down. It's time to start a spay and neuter program for stupid people.

CK
I think she is a pitcher.... she knocked him down with her keys. Usually pitchers don't hit. Maybe she uses a DH

She must have a pretty weak swing with that Louisville Slugger. Just a few cuts on the head?

She'll never make the Majors with a swing like that.
