Money management in college? Author Summey has some tips

Published October 30th, 2009 | 10:46 am | 0 Comments

If you ask entrepreneur and author Mike Summey what he credits for his success, he is quick to say, "It's my education. I have Ph.D. from the University of Hard Knocks."

Summey visits Northeast State Community College on Nov. 4 as special guest lecturer to share advice from his book, "What Your Parents Don't Tell You and Your Teachers Don't Teach You About Money." Summey will hold two presentations at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the College's main campus in Blountville.

Summey details the financial mistakes college students and young adults make purely from lack of knowledge. He explains the basics of smart money management investing, and making wise purchases will improve the overall quality of their lives in an uncertain financial age.

From his upbringing in the coalfields of West Virginia, Summey vowed to become a success by age 30. He invested $300 in an old van and started a small sign shop. He would later invent and patent the single pole outdoor advertising model now used throughout the world. Success beyond his wildest dreams would follow.

Summey's lectures are sponsored by the Northeast State Cultural Activities Committee. Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact 423.354.2474 or e-mail keglover@NortheastState.edu.
