Serious injury appears to have been avoided Tuesday morning when a police squad car clipped a man attempting to cross Center Street in a wheelchair.
The incident occurred at 7:20 a.m. on East Center Street near Forest Street. Kingsport Police Department Lt. Bob Abernathy reports a man who lives in the area was attempting to cross the busy street in his wheelchair. He reportedly rolled out in front of a passing police car, which clipped the chair and spun it around.
The man was thrown from the chair and transported to the hospital as a precaution. Lt. Abernathy reports no serious injuries were incurred in the incident.
Kingsport police report the Sullivan County Sherriff’s Office is investigating the collision.
