A spring train excursion and visit to the Knoxville Zoo is planned for May 18.
JOHNSON CITY — The George L. Carter Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) and East Tennessee State University’s George L. Carter Railroad Museum will sponsor a scenic spring train excursion and visit to the Knoxville Zoo on Saturday, May 18. Tickets must be purchased before May 1. Seating is limited.
The price for the excursion is $85 for adults and $80 for children ages 2-12. Infants may ride free. The fee includes bus transportation to and from Knoxville, a 90-minute steam train ride and admission to the Knoxville Zoo.
Passengers should arrive at ETSU’s parking lot 22A on Jack Vest Drive no later than 8 a.m. to travel by motor coach to Knoxville. The Three Rivers Rambler steam train will depart at 10 a.m. and follow a scenic route along the Tennessee River. Upon returning to the station at 11:30 a.m., passengers will board buses and travel to the Knoxville Zoo to picnic or purchase lunch and tour the zoo. Buses will begin loading at 4:30 p.m. for the return to Johnson City, arriving between 6:30 and 7 p.m.
Ticket order forms and liability waivers are available at the Carter Railroad Museum on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or online at the Mountain Empire Model Railroaders website at www.memrr.org by choosing “NRHS News” and then “Ticket Order Form.” A signed liability waiver form must accompany the ticket request.
