KINGSPORT — You would expect the front door at your local Target to feature signs encouraging customers to come inside and buy something.
Instead it says, “We’re Hiring.”
It’s seasonal hiring time in the region, and retailers are reaching out to people who want to work a few hours or more than 20 hours per week.
“We’re looking Tri-Cities-wide for about 150 [people],” said Target Human Resources team member Jennifer Lyster at the retailer’s Kingsport Pavilion location. “We’re only going to be getting busier. Our motto here at Target is ‘Fast, Fun and Friendly’ so we’re looking for team members who can deliver that as well as amazing guest service.”
Media reports suggest seasonal hiring during this year’s fourth quarter is on the uptick. Online retailer Amazon announced it wants to hire 70,000 seasonal workers for the holidays. Kohl’s, which like Target has a presence at the Kingsport Pavilion, is also reported to be looking for more than 50,000 part-time workers in its nationwide network of stores.Read more in Sunday's print edition of the Times-News or in the expanded electronic edition.
