Dennis Allen Foster
KINGSPORT — A Sullivan County man was arrested Monday by agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after being indicted for voting illegally in a local municipal election.
Dennis Allen Foster, 50, of Blountville, was indicted by a federal grand jury last week on a single count of illegal voting, which is considered a Class D felony.
The charge against Foster stems from allegations he voted in a Bristol, Tenn., municipal election despite having lived outside the city limits for six years.
According to a TBI spokesperson, the election was held in May 2013.
The 2nd Judicial District attorney general’s office requested the TBI investigation after receiving information about Foster’s alleged voting activities from the Sullivan County administrator of elections in May.
Investigators allege that Foster early voted in the election and “falsely declared with his signature” that he was still residing at his former address inside the city limits when his vote was cast.
Foster also reportedly signed, postdated and mailed a change of address to the Sullivan County Election Commission acknowledging that he was no longer residing within the Bristol city limits.
Foster was booked into the Sullivan County Jail Monday on a $2,500 bond.
