Mustangs at the mansion: Dan'l Boone Car Club to host show Sunday

The 46th annual Allandale Car Show will take place this Sunday, bringing hundreds of cars and car enthusiasts to the region.The event, sponsored by the Dan'l Boone Car Club, showcases cars of all types, classes, descriptions and models. It will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, at Allandale Mansion in Kingsport.This year's show recognizes the 60th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. There will be Mustangs displayed on the Allandale lawn, showing the seven Mustang generations spanning from 1964 to 2025.More than 150 Mustangs are expected to attend, event chairman Dave Williams said. He said the show will likely be the largest gathering of Mustangs for this area."What we do every year is we feature a different kind of car," Williams said. "This year, we're featuring the Ford Mustang since it's the 60th anniversary, and we've made a lot of contact with different Mustang clubs, and people that are interested in Mustangs will bring them out."Longtime club member and car show participant Pete Renfro will have his 2005 Mustang GT at the show. Renfro said he has been a part of the Dan'l Boone Car Club for more than two decades, and his car mainly travels to local shows these days."I purchased my Mustang at the Charlotte Speedway," Renfro said. "They had an auction over there, and folks had built it. I didn't do any building on it, but they had put on a body kit, a new grill, front end, hood and so forth."Along with this year's theme, dash plaques will be awarded to the first 300 registered vehicles. There will be plaques awarded for Top 25 vehicles, along with other specialty award plaques.Williams said the event brings the community together each year. Funds from the event also support local high school programs in the process. West Ridge High School JROTC provides directions, information and help with logistics during the event. West Ridge High School Band Boosters provide food throughout the day."All these groups are self-supported, so they need our help, and they're always very dependable," Williams said. "They work well with us, and we want to work with them, because the youth of today are our car enthusiasts and the leaders of tomorrow as well."Throughout the show, there will be door prizes awarded all day, toy giveaways for the children, historic displays, Mustang memorabilia and more. The Appalachian Scale Modelers will provide free "build and take" model cars for the kids.Allandale Mansion is located at 4444 W.
