Walmart fuel center under construction on Fort Henry Drive

KINGSPORT— A new fuel center is being built at the Walmart on Fort Henry Drive. Construction equipment could be seen working on the new development Wednesday morning in the Walmart Supercenter #599 parking lot. The Kingsport Regional Planning Commission approved a preliminary zoning development plan for the fuel center at the March 20, 2025 meeting. Before the April meeting, Walmart supplied the commission with an amended preliminary site plan to address incoming traffic concerns. "After parking is adjusted to accommodate the fuel center, the site as a whole will have a total of 873 parking stalls," the Zoning Development Plan report shared with the commission states. "The minimum amount of parking for a planned shopping center of this size is 840 spaces. The site and associated parcel will still maintain an overabundance of parking spaces to that satisfy the parking code." A city spokesperson said the specific address for the fuel center is 3150 Fort Henry Drive. Grading, mechanical and plumbing permits were issued by the city in December 2025. Walmart applied for a new commercial retail or wholesale permit on April 29, 2025. In emailed statement from Walmart on Thursday, a representative of the company said construction is estimated to finish this summer. "Walmart is excited to bring a new fuel station to the Kingsport community," the email statement reads. "In addition to offering everyday low prices at the pump, customers can enjoy up to 10 cents off per gallon with a Walmart+ membership. The walk-in station will offer a one-stop shopping experience with the same everyday low prices on snacks and beverages as what's offered inside the store."
