Employees' creations will be on display in the Circle Gallery, located in the first floor lobby of Kingsport City Hall, 415 Broad St., through March 30. ••• Johnson City's Art Struck Festival will be held Saturday, April 25, at The Pavilion at Founders Park, 105 W. Main St., in downtown Johnson City from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to arts demonstrations, dozens of local artists will have their works available for sale. The festival will feature a range of arts performances and highlights in addition to hands-on activities for all ages including mask decorating, bucket drumming, a weaving fence, and wand making. A chalk art competition will be held at the event along with a street art throwdown, in which local artists will create graffiti-style art on site. A variety of food trucks will be available for attendees to enjoy. All activities are free and open to the public. ••• Fischman Gallery will host the International Fl3tch3r Exhibit Aug. 7 through Sept. 27. An opening reception will be held Aug. 7, and an awards reception will take place Sept. 4. More information will be available prior to the opening. BALLET "Swan Lake" will be performed at East Tennessee State University's Martin Center on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. The performance is family-friendly — suitable for ages 3 and up. BIRDING The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, will offer a monthly Birding in the Gap series on the second Saturday of February, April, June and November. Sessions are planned for Feb. 14, April 11, June 13 and Nov. 14 from 9-11 a.m. Led by knowledgeable park rangers and enthusiastic volunteers, this series is designed for bird lovers of all experience levels. We'll meet at the museum's front gate and set out together to explore the beautiful museum grounds and the scenic Powell River greenbelt in Big Stone Gap. This easy, accessible walk is a perfect way to enjoy nature while discovering the fascinating world of birds. The program takes place rain or shine, so please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Binoculars are welcome but are not required. No registration is needed. CONCERTS Husband-and-wife duo Josh and Julie Kinn weave octave mandolin, bodhrán (Irish drum), and smooth vocal harmonies into their Celtic folk music from the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Kinnfolk will play the Jettie Baker Center on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in conjunction with Pro-Art's 49th season and the town of Clintwood. Tickets are available at the door. FESTIVALS The Johnson City Jazz Festival will be held April 16–19. The festival will kick off Thursday, April 16, at Capone's in downtown Johnson City. The music continues Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, at the Martin Center's Powell Recital Hall in Johnson City, and the festival will hold its grand finale on Sunday, April 19, at the Jackson Theatre in Jonesborough. For more information, visit www.JohnsonCityJazzFestival.com. ••• The Gathering in the Gap Music Festival at the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park in Big Stone Gap will offer a one-of-a-kind evening of performances by an eclectic mix of acclaimed performers. Gathering in the Gap is a community-grounded, immersive festival hosted by the Friends of Southwest Virginia Museum that preserves and perpetuates authentic, traditional and historical music and folk arts of Southwest Virginia. This year's festival will be held on Saturday, May 23. Featured performers will be Sister Sadie, Dave Eggar and David Shenton featuring Erin Shields and Sasha Lazard, and the Lonesome River Band. In addition to the featured Main Stage performances, Gathering in the Gap will include songwriting and music competitions, music jams, various historical and cultural programming, crafts and games for children, the "Gathering Place" Beer and Wine Garden, the Stitch in Time Quilt Show, a Camp & Carve, and more. HISTORY AND HERITAGE The Tri Cities Civil War Round Table will host a presentation relating to the American Civil War and Reconstruction by Dr. Daniel Feller at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, in Room 219 of the Toy F. NATURE Bays Mountain Park has an interactive exhibit in the Nature Center titled "Discover Our Appalachian Highlands Home." PLANETARIUM Bays Mountain Park has announced its latest planetarium show, "The Sun: Our Living Star," where viewers will discover the amazing secrets of our closest star. "The Sun: Our Living Star" will show as the main feature in the Planetarium Theater through April 30. The 40-minute program is being shown Tuesday through Friday at 4 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at noon and 4 p.m. This program will be followed by a brief tour of the current evening sky.
