Is God Transforming You?

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters." - Romans 8:28-29/NIV The older I become I tend to determine why things happen to me, and around me, based upon the focal passages. Many times I may be "entering the narrow gate and walking the narrow path," and seeking to do the right things. Even though my heart and actions may be in the right place, I may still be faced with tough and challenging seasons. In the midst of misery, I have had days where I did not want to get out of bed because I knew it would be another tough one. As the challenging seasons hit, I find that I live in God's Word to gain understanding, and to help me cope effectively. Recently the pastor at my church spoke about the focal passage, but in doing so, offered a bit of a different perspective. My pastor wondered when we are following God's will and purpose, and all things work together for the good, how this could be a time of transformation for us. When we are completing the work God has placed before us to do, could He be reshaping or molding us into a new person? As we are "transformed," could we be better equipped and enabled to serve Him more effectively? Perhaps greater wisdom and skill is achieved! I believe there are tasks God places before us that He needs us to manage and resolve according to His will. The older I become it seems the challenges are tougher, more demanding, draining, and never-ending. Romans 8:28 does not imply that carrying out the mission(s) God has placed before us will be easy or fun. Despite the tasks being challenging and tough, we need to remind ourselves that the "good" involves God's work and perfect will be carried out. The "good" may shift from a personal perspective to what is most important – our Heavenly Father! In consideration of the perspectives presented, Romans 8:29 helps me to understand "why" tough missions are placed before me! "For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son." As I am a creation of God, he foreknew me and my heart and is continually seeking to reshape and transform me. Transformation may occur as I conform my behavior to my circumstances which are consistent with biblical teaching. As I "conform" myself I will take on more of a Christ-like image and be more like Him. Personal considerations: Perhaps when doing God's work in the midst of tough and challenging times, this reminds me of the importance of being "called according to His will and purpose!" Is the tough and challenging situation I am faced with helping to transform me into a new and better person? Good to consider! Many blessings to you!
