ROUNDUP: Reilly homers twice, D-B finishes unbeaten week in S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Andrew Reilly's second home run sent the Dobyns-Bennett baseball team home with an unblemished week in South Carolina. His second bomb, a grand slam, gave D-B the winning score in the top of the seventh as the Indians topped Philip Simmons 16-13 on Thursday. Reilly hit a solo shot in his first at-bat and also doubled twice, finishing 5-for-5 and driving in eight runs. Leadoff batter Maddox Martin went 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs, Cam Hayworth went 2-for-3 and T.J. Maxwell doubled with two RBIs. D-B led 7-0 in the middle of the second and 10-2 in the fourth before the Iron Horses rallied, taking a 13-12 lead in the sixth on Brian Ebeling's two-run shot. Cooper Galyon, D-B's fifth pitcher to take the mound, struck out two over two innings for the win, and Reilly struck out the side to get the save. Blake Johnson and Alex Romanski had three hits apiece for Philip Simmons, which also got home runs from Pierce Johnson and Romanski. West Ridge 2, University High 1 ELIZABETHTON — Parker Senn and Reagan Moore knocked back-to-back RBI singles with two out, giving West Ridge the winning runs in the top of the fifth. Dale Martin went the distance, striking out five and scattering four hits. Cam Smith batted 2-for-2. Cole Stevenson's RBI single gave the Bucs a 1-0 lead in the second. Knox Poston fanned four in his seven-hit effort. David Crockett 10, Unicoi County 3 JONESBOROUGH — Carson Bradburn batted in four runs, going 3-for-4 with a double as the Pioneers scored seven runs in the third inning. Lukas Eastering went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored, and Nolan Street had a double with two RBIs. Bradburn pitched the final four innings and struck out three while allowing three hits in relief of Cooper Pettit (2 Ks, 4 hits). Kolby Jones hit a solo home run for the Blue Devils, while Hudson Berry (2 RBIs) and Tanner White both singled twice. Cherokee 9, North Greene 7 BAILEYTON — Sawyer Housewright's two-run double capped a four-run fourth inning for the Chiefs, who had fallen behind 6-3 before rallying. Porter Owen doubled in two more runs in the sixth for insurance. Housewright and Owen (triple) both went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Jayden Weston hit 3-for-3 with a double and scored three times. Landon Davis pitched 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts for the win, before Steven Barnes fanned five over the rest of the game. Isaac Halley went 2-for-4 to lead the Huskies. Hampton 10, Happy Valley 9 ELIZABETHTON — Elisha Henson lined an RBI single to center to plate the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, breaking a 7-7 tie before Colby Clark and Cade Nelson added RBI singles of their own to make it 10-7. Henson (2 RBIs) and Jayden Kuhn (double) both went 3-for-4, Brayden Otey hit 2-for-4 with a double and Memphis Nave had three RBIs. Kuhn got the win in relief, striking out three over the last three frames. Mason Foister (2 RBIs) and Lane Parker (double) both had three hits for Happy Valley. The Warriors got a double, a triple and three runs from Grady Goulds. Science Hill 7, Oakland 4 MURFREESBORO — Trailing 4-0 after four innings, Science Hill rallied to victory with a five-run seventh. Darren Hill drew a bases-loaded walk, before Haydon Smelser and O Lewis scored on a shortstop error. C McKinney's two-run single then provided the final score. Nate Stoots and Smelser (2 RBIs) both collected two hits, Smelser and Caden Wells both doubling. Hagen Gibson went the distance and struck out nine in his eight-hit win. Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) 8, Science Hill 2 MURFREESBORO — Andrew Walker went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run for the Huskies, who accumulated 14 hits with Sawyer Jackson hitting 3-for-4 from the nine-hole. Cale McIntosh struck out nine in his five-hit win. Aiden Vermillion, Science Hill's nine-hole batter, went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Haydon Smelser and Anderson Craft both singled and scored a run. Tennessee High 13, Lebanon (Va.) 11 BRISTOL, Tenn. — Russell Blevins wore a pitch to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning, and he scored the go-ahead run on a balk for a 12-11 lead. Eli Ragan went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs from the eight-hole. Hudson Pender (double), Preston Feagins (double), Austin Harbor and Zion Brookwell (double) had two hits apiece for the Vikings, and Dayne Musick (double) drive in three runs. Grant Moulse pitched the last 1 2/3 innings for the win, striking out two. Johnson County 13, Tri-Cities Christian 3 MOUNTAIN CITY — Kaden Blevins hit 3-for-4 with a double, scoring three times as the Longhorns pushed across eight unanswered runs. Braxton Bragg (3 runs) and Grayson Espinosa had two hits apiece, and Ethan Smith struck out seven in his five-inning effort for the win. South Elgin (Ill.) 3, Elizabethton 0 MURFREESBORO — Tate Wills went 4 2/3 innings and combined with Caden Weninger for a two-hit shutout, striking out two batters. Battle 13, Gate City 3 BRISTOL, Va. — Palmer Gobble went 2-for-2 with a home run, and Heath Persiani 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple from the nine-hole as Battle ended the game with an eight-run fifth. Canyon Yates went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Preston Rosenbaum struck out four in 2 2/3 innings for the win. Dylan Carter went 3-for-3 for Gate City, which got a solo home run from Evan Short. Colton Varney struck out seven with three hits over four innings, before three hitless innings and eight strikeouts from Bryce Bentley. South Greene 11, Unaka 2 ELIZABETHTON — Eight-hole batter Eli Fillers went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, helping lead the Rebels to their first win of the year. Dawson Ripley struck out seven and scattered two hits over 4 1/3 innings pitched. Brandon Buckles went 2-for-4 for Unaka, which got a double from Robert Humphrey and a triple from Conner Vines. SOFTBALL D-B wins opening two at Eastman KINGSPORT — Allie McConnelee struck out 10 and scattered three hits as D-B took down Macon East (Ga.) 10-1 in its Eastman Invitational opener. Riley Hughes-Lepovich went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the offense. Evie Porter (double, 3 RBIs), Phoenix Ahles, McConnelee, Laiken Hinson, Braelynn Ferrell and Riley McMillan (double) had two hits apiece. Hinson went 3-for-3 with an RBI to help D-B take down Lebanon (Va.) 7-2. Riley McMillan (triple) and Hughes-Lepovich (2 RBIs) had two hits each, and Ferrell (2 Ks) got the win in relief. West Ridge pitches pair of shutouts KINGSPORT — Miranda Henley struck out nine and combined with Zoey Blair (5 Ks) for the five-hit shutout, pitching four and three innings respectively as West Ridge edged Lebanon 1-0 in its Eastman Invitational opener. The winning run came on Kaylee Hicks' RBI single in the fifth. Blair then earned her first win of the year, striking out three with one hit in a 10-0 victory over Macon East. Nila Horne (triple), Kami Clark (double, 2 RBIs) and Katherine Hortenstine (triple, 4 RBIs) had two hits apiece for the offense. Science Hill 6, David Crockett 4 JONESBOROUGH — Annabelle Eanes set up the winning rally with a one-out double in the seventh. Ainsley Craft singled her home to break the 4-4 tie, and Reagan Carroll scored on a sacrifice fly. Isabel Meeks doubled twice with two RBIs for the Lady Toppers, while Ella Meeks went 2-for-2 from the nine hole. Isabel Meeks also struck out three over the last three innings for the four-hit win, after Piper Brewer tossed the first four. Leadoff hitter Bella Blanton hit 3-for-4 and scored twice for Crockett, while Madelyn Dulaney fanned 14 batters in her five-hit outing. Daniel Boone 4, Tennessee High 2 GRAY — Abby Sherman hit 3-for-3 to lead the Lady Trailblazers, who got all four of their runs in the second inning. Emmi Croley's two-out single to right plated two runs to break the 1-1 tie. She finished 2-for-4 while striking out two and allowing two hits over four innings pitched. Brooklyn Boswell scattered three hits over three innings. Taylor Carmody went 2-for-3 to lead Tennessee High, which got an RBI double from Addie Wilhoit. Cloudland 15, Hampton 3 HAMPTON — Eowyn McCoury set the tone by leading off the game with a solo home run. The Lady Highlanders jumped ahead 4-0 and then aded 11 runs between the third and fourth innings. Willow Bennett (3-for-3, 2 RBIs), Ayla Horney and Reagan Turbyfill all doubled while Peyton Presswood went 2-for-4. Savannah McCoury got the win in relief, striking out two over 2 2/3 innings. Lauren Smith tripled for Hampton's only hit. Unaka 10, Johnson County 0 ELIZABETHTON — Kimberly Proffitt tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 10 and walking just two in five innings of work. Kacie Bare hit a solo home run for the Lady Rangers. Mikena Blackwell went 2-for-4, with Brooklyn Campbell and Proffitt both doubling. Grainger 4, Volunteer 3 RUTLEDGE — Jaylee Hayes tied the game with her two-run double, and then scored the winning run on Amanda Kledzik's base hit to center field in the fourth inning. Hayes doubled twice and went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while McKinley Mills singled twice. Sydney New gave Volunteer a 3-1 lead in the fourth with her three-run homer. Rylee Smith doubled for the Lady Falcons. Greeneville 8, Cherokee 1 ROGERSVILLE — Brooke Parsley hit a double and later a two-run home run, driving in four runs for the Lady Devils. Brynlee Jones doubled twice and finished 3-for-4. Brylee Tullock (triple) and Baylee Ramsey (double) had two hits apiece, with Jones striking out 16 batters in her three-hit win. Shelby Helton hit 2-for-3 to lead Cherokee. North Greene 8, University High 3 BAILEYTON — Charlie Turnmire went 2-for-2 and matched Hannah Brooks with two RBIs. Matti Phillips fanned eight with three hits over six innings for the win. Emma Linkous went 2-for-3 to lead UH, and Madison Luck scored twice. Mitchell (N.C.) 19, Providence Academy 7 JOHNSON CITY — Emma Caldwell went 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for the Lady Knights, who closed the gap to 9-7 in the third inning. Emma Honeycutt went 2-for-3, and Lece Lemmon doubled. BOYS SOCCER Volunteer 5, Union (Va.) 0 CHURCH HILL — It was all Evan on for the Falcons. Evan Lukens scored Volunteer's first three goals for a hat trick, and Evan Wilder connected on the last two. Camden Lukens assisted two of the goals with Wilder, Brinley Buchanan and Colton Miller dishing out one helper each. Ossie Franklin stopped eight shots in his clean sheet. Unicoi County 3, David Crockett 2 ERWIN — Isaac Acevedo scored twice for the victorious Blue Devils. McKinley Norris found the back of the net and assisted Acevedo once, with Jared Mendoza assisting the other. Benny Acevedo made nine saves in goal to get the win. Carlos Prato scored both goals for rebuilding Crockett, which got seven saves from Calvin Dennis. Bearden 4, Science Hill 0 KNOXVILLE — Griffin Lewis tallied 11 saves for Science Hill, which trailed 1-0 at the half and attempted 11 shots. Three of them were on goal, but the Hilltoppers missed a second-half penalty kick. CAK 4, Providence Academy 2 JOHNSON CITY — Carter Larson and Cage Merkel scored for Providence Academy, which stayed within 3-2 until the final minute when CAK scored against the pressed-up Knights. Larson and Luke Severson had one assist each, while Austin Beckner made 10 saves.
