Wesley Whitaker is running for Sullivan County District 6 constable. Q: What inspired you to run for this position? A: "Serving the people of Sullivan County is what inspires me to seek reelection as Constable. A lifetime in law enforcement has taught me that fair, experienced policing builds trust and safety. I am motivated by protecting our residents and businesses and continuing to serve this community with integrity and accountability." Q: What experiences have prepared or qualified you for this position? A: "With 27 years in law enforcement, including work in corrections, patrol and probation, I've built a strong, well-rounded background. My experience with Tennessee laws and daily decision making has prepared me to handle a wide range of public safety situations and carry out the responsibilities of constable with confidence and professionalism." Q: What are your top goals and priorities, if elected? A: "A constable is elected by the people, for the people, and my priority is to stay visible and involved in the community I serve. I believe trust comes from being present, approachable, and willing to listen and serve. I want residents and business owners to know who their constable is and feel comfortable reaching out. By staying connected, I can better understand local concerns and serve Sullivan County responsibly." Q: What do you believe are the strengths and weaknesses of the constable system in Sullivan County? What does this governing body do well, and how could it improve? A: "I believe constables in Sullivan County are a strong asset to public safety and local law enforcement. They provide service and support at no cost to taxpayers and often have generational ties to the areas they serve. A weakness of the system is that many people do not understand what a constable does. Improving public awareness and visibility would help residents better understand the role and value of constables in our community." Q: What issues do you feel are most important to residents, and how do you plan to connect with constituents and address their concerns? A: "From listening to residents across Sullivan County, I know people value having a constable who is present, involved and accessible. My priority is staying connected by being visible in neighborhoods, attending local events and regularly checking in with residents and businesses. I will keep open lines of communication, listen directly to concerns, remain approachable, and ensure people know their constable is someone they can trust and turn to."
