ROUNDUP: Meeks dominant in the circle as Lady 'Toppers down West Ridge

BLOUNTVILLE — Science Hill's Isabel Meeks is no stranger to pitching in key Big East matchups. She once again answered the call on Monday evening. The senior tossed six shutout innings and struck out 11 as the Lady 'Toppers defeated West Ridge 7-0. Science Hill was able to give the veteran early run support in the second inning. Regan Carroll put a ball into the left-center gap that resulted in an inside-the-park home run following a minor collision in the outfield, where both Lady Wolves came away okay. That ultimately was all Meeks needed, as she retired 10 batters in a row until there were two outs in the fourth. The run was ended by Caydence Spears, who singled to break up a no-hit bid. It was only the first of two base hits Meeks allowed. She also helped herself at the plate, hitting a two-run double in the fifth inning in what was a five-run inning for the Science Hill offense. Ainsley Craft delivered the biggest blow of the inning, a two-run home run to left field to make it a seven-run game. The Lady 'Toppers were able to cruise from there, as Meeks and Piper Brewer scattered one hit and three walks across the final three innings. Dobyns-Bennett 12, Gate City 0 KINGSPORT — Phoenix Ahles tossed a no-hitter in five innings for the Lady Indians. She walked just two and struck out 10 batters. Mary Kate Lively went a perfect 2-for-2 with a triple to lead the D-B offense, scoring three runs as well. Aly Taylor also had a pair of hits and B Ferrell drove in a pair of runs. The Lady Indians posted three runs in the first, two runs in each of the third and fourth, and five in the fifth. Unicoi County 6, Gibbs 0 MORRISTOWN — Lela Byrd allowed just one hit and four walks in an eight-strikeout shutout. Byrd also contributed heavily with the bat, smoking both a double and a home run to drive in three RBI. Kyndal Engle also had a two-hit game for the Lady Blue Devils. Tennessee High 7, Daniel Boone 5 BRISTOL, Tenn. — Taylor Carmody hit a walk-off, three-run homer for the Lady Vikings. The blast capped off a five-run inning. Nila Proffitt also left the yard for the hosts as part of a two-hit game. Kerrington Davis hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the sixth to put the Lady 'Blazers up three runs. Lakeway Christian 4, David Crockett 3 JONESBOROUGH — McKinley Grubb hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to give the Lady Lions a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Avery Ramey allowed just one earned run and struck out 11 to earn a win in a complete-game effort. Madelyn Dulaney scored a pair of runs and Lily Mango recorded 16 strikeouts in the circle for the Lady Pioneers. Unaka 14, Sullivan East 5 ELIZABETHTON — Katlyn Dugger went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, three RBI and four runs scored for the Lady Rangers. Mikena Blackwell, Brooklyn Campbell, Devalynn Harter, Kelsey Pasquale, and Kimberly Proffitt all also recorded multiple hits for Unaka Audrey Easley homered and Ryleigh Joyner singled twice and scored twice for the Lady Patriots. Chuckey-Doak 12, Hampton 7 HAMPTON — The Lady Black Knights posted a six-spot in the seventh inning to pull out a non-conference win. Hayleigh Seidl hit a homer for the visitors. Paylin Shelton went 5-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored, and both Madisyn Miller and Hayden Kenney added three hits. Lauren Smith with 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Lady Bulldogs. Mitchell (N.C.) 16, University High 9 JOHNSON CITY — Gracie English hit a three-run blast in a five-run seventh for the Mountaineers. Emma Linkous slugged three triples as part of a 4-for-5 game at the plate for the Lady Bucs. The King's Academy 18, Providence Academy 11 JOHNSON CITY — An 11-run top of the first inning gave the Lady Lions plenty of cushion for the rest of the game. Hamby drove in five RBI and Leah Smelcer brought home another four for the visitors. Lece Lemmon and Margo Baldridge combined for seven hits at the top of the Lady Knight order. BASEBALL Science Hill 13, Morristown East 7 MORRISTOWN — The Hilltoppers were relentless at the plate, plating at least one run in every inning. Darren Hill homered, Caden Wells went a perfect 4-for-4, and both Nate Stoots and Bryson Carver accounted for three RBI apiece. Wells also picked up the winning decision on the mound after five innings of one-run ball, striking out seven. Tucker Wyatt had a pair of hits for the Hurricanes. Dobyns-Bennett 9, Morristown West 8 MORRISTOWN — The Indians rallied from down 7-1 after two innings to take a Big East win. T.J. Maxwell drove in three runs on three hits, Kaden Cutlip also had three RBI, and Taylor Blankenship hit a solo home run in the fifth. Garrison Jones pitched a key game out of the bullpen, not allowing an earned run across 4 ⅔ innings. Andrew Reilly picked up his save. Leo Hull doubled and scored a pair of runs for the Trojans. West Ridge 15, Gate City 9 BLOUNTVILLE — Ty Malak doubled twice and carried the offensive load for the Wolves by driving in six RBI. Parker Senn went 4-for-5 with five runs scored out of the home team's leadoff spot. Dean Martin, Cam Smith, and Braelyn Vance all had three-hit games. Collin Wood went 3-for-5 for the Blue Devils and Hayden Wilson drove in three runs. CAK 5, Providence Academy 3 JOHNSON CITY — The Warriors went for four runs in the top of the sixth to take a late lead they didn't lose. Joey Sullish tossed a complete game for the visitors, scattering seven hits and recording sixth strikeouts. James Sharpe drove in two RBI for the CAK offense. Cole Blanton doubled and homered for the Knights out of the leadoff spot, and Marcus Stine also had two hits. Elizabethton 11, Sullivan East 1 ELIZABETHTON — Seth Holly and Elijah Ambrose both had three hits out of the bottom two spots in the order for the Cyclones. Holly and Ryan Kasting each drove in three RBI while Ambrose knocked in two more. Cole Krawcyzk got the start and allowed just one run, while Holly pitched two scoreless frames to close the game. Luke Blevins singled home the Patriots' lone run in the fifth inning. Hampton 11, Unaka 1 ELIZABETHTON — Colby Clark was just a single shy of the cycle for the Bulldogs. He scored three runs and drove in three. Brock Shelby and Jayden Kuhn each had two-hit games and Clark and Cade Nelson combined to allow just three hits and two walks on the mound. Conner Vines drove in the Rangers' lone run in the first inning. Greeneville 15, Cherokee 2 ROGERSVILLE — Will Harmon went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and three total RBI while also striking out nine in four innings for the Greene Devils. Kaine Ricker went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, Maddox Bishop had three hits, and Tegan Begley and Grayson Crosby both hit a pair of singles. Jayden Weston roped a pair of doubles and Porter Owen singled twice for the Chiefs. Grainger 2, Volunteer 1 RUTLEDGE — Garrett Keiter allowed a run but tossed a no-hitter for the Grizzlies. He also scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth after a Falcon error. Nolan Wallace tied the game in the seventh with a bunt single and Falcon error to plate C Brabson. Greyson Dennis scored Volunteer's only run and Gavin Hickernell struck out 11 in seven innings. North Greene 15, Cloudland 0 (Game 1) BAILEYTON — Tyler Britton didn't allow a hit or a walk in three innings for the Huskies to open the doubleheader. Owen Pierce and Wyatt Burns both homered in the affair, where North Greene erupted for 11 runs in the third inning. North Greene 15, Cloudland 0 (Game 2) BAILEYTON — Isaac Gaby homered and also recorded all six of his outs on the mound via the strikeout in the second half of the double dip. The Huskies combined for 11 hits in just two team at-bats. Austin Simerly had the lone hit for the Highlanders, a first-inning single.
