ROUNDUP: Greene Devils, Vikings, Knights roll into region finals

GREENEVILLE — The Greeneville boys soccer team struck quickly and never let up in Tuesday's Region 1-AA semifinal round. Cristian Banegas scored 19 seconds into the match for the Greene Devils, who benefited from two own goals and rolled to a 9-0 victory over Sullivan East. Sam Gourley, Jude Dyer and Remi Elyze-Vital each found the back of the net for a 6-0 halftime lead. Kevin Moreno and Luke Mullhollen each added goals in the second half before Greeneville won by mercy rule. The Greene Devils entertain Elizabethton for the Region 1-AA championship Thursday. In Region 1-AAA, Tennessee High came up short at District 2 champion Sevier County, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Smoky Bears. Sevier County will host Science Hill on Thursday for the region final. Chuckey-Doak pulled a Region 1-A semifinal upset at Eagleton Academy, surging ahead 3-0 at halftime before going on to win 5-1. Gate City 7, Wise Central 0 GATE CITY — Mason Baker completed a hat trick as Gate City capped an undefeated run through the Mountain 7 District on senior night. Walker Hillman scored twice and assisted another. Elijah McMurray answered Max Taylor each had one goal and one assist, with Noah Taylor dishing out one helper. Bryson Smith (1 save) and Judd Kegley (2 saves) got the combined clean sheet. Gate City plays in the Mountain 7 District tournament on May 19. GIRLS SOCCER Wise Central 2, Gate City 1 GATE CITY — Ayden Seaver found the back of the net for Gate City on an Isabella Hartsock assist, but Central left the Scott County Sports Complex victorious over the Lady Blue Devils to claim second place in the Mountain 7. Avery Elam saved seven shots for Gate City, which finished third in the standings. BASEBALL Gate City 3, Wise Central 2 NORTON — Dakoda McMurray gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead with his solo home run in the sixth, and Jake Burns doubled in another run in the seventh make it 3-1 before Gate City held on. Easton McLain also doubled for one of Gate City's six hits. Dylan Carter tossed a three-hitter, striking out three in his complete game win. Ethan Foster went 2-for-3 with a double for Central. Rye Cove 3, Thomas Walker 0 EWING — Hagan Rhoton got the start and struck out four, before Will Rollins went the final five innings with nine strikeouts and no hits allowed in Tuesday's combined one-hit shutout. Zach Lane, Peyton Fonseca and Gabe Ramsey all singled for the War Eagles, Lane scoring twice and Ramsey's hit scoring a run for a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Eastside 18, Twin Springs 4 COEBURN — Brandon Edwards and Landon Pannell both went 3-for-5 with a double, the former totaling five RBIs for the Spartans. Phil Clay doubled twice and scored four runs while also striking out five and allowing one hit in three innings for the win. Isaiah Kiser hit a solo home run for the Titans. SOFTBALL Rye Cove 12, Thomas Walker 1 EWING — Hannah Leedy hit 2-for-2 with a triple to help her cause in the circle, where she struck out 13 and allowed just two hits. Morgan Edwards hit a double and a home run for Rye Cove, which led 5-0 after one inning and 10-0 after two. Madison Early doubled with three RBIs. Wise Central 10, Gate City 0 NORTON — Spencer Shortt fired a two-hit shutout for the Lady Warriors, striking out five and walking just two while also batting in two runs. Kaelyn Dales doubled with three RBIs, and Chloe Wells hit 3-for-4. Macie Gibson and Sophie Fleming had two hits each. Jayden Boatwright and Emma Jobe both singled for Gate City. Eastside 6, Twin Springs 0 COEBURN — Emma Sartin pitched a one-hit shutout for the Lady Spartans, striking out 11 and walking none while batting 2-for-3. Dakota Clay, Mallory Durham (double), Zoe Sartin and Peyton VanWinkle (double) had two hits each. Sophie Scalf had Twin Springs' lone hit. Makenzie Gillenwater struck out three for Twin Springs.
