'Run the Streets' draws crowd under new event name

KINGSPORT — More than 300 people gathered in downtown Kingsport Saturday to participate in the Run The Streets 10K/5K road race. Both races, hosted by Healthy Kingsport and presented by Ballad Health, started on Clinchfield Street between the Kingsport Chamber building and Food City. The race was previously known as the Racks by the Tracks 10K and 5K, but has now been rebranded. A previous release states proceeds from the event will support Healthy Kingsport's mission "to create a healthier community to live, work, learn and play." Healthy Kingsport Director Desteny Clemons thanked those in attendance and shouted out those who made the day possible. "We have a lovely morning this morning for a run," she said. "So thank you all so much for signing up and coming out." Kevin Rinks, Holston Valley Medical Center and Indian Path Community Hospital chief executive officer, also shared some brief introductory comments to kick off the event. "I just wanted to take a second to thank you for allowing Ballad Health to partner with Healthy Kingsport for this 5 and 10K event," he said. "I hope everybody stays safe out there, and remember: it's just one foot in front of the other. Just getting to the finish line is what it's all about." Results The top three overall male racers, to three overall female racers and top three racers in each group received additional awards; all race finishers were previously reported to receive a finisher medal. Will Stockley, 26, of Kingsport, had the fastest finish times for both the 5K (16 minutes, 37 seconds) and 10K (33 minutes, 21 seconds). Results showed Stephanie Place Buchanan, 38, of Bristol, Tennessee, had the fastest finish times for female results in both the 5K (18 minutes, 8 seconds) and 10K (36 minutes, 54 seconds). According to the results website, participants from across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia were a part of Saturday's race.
