The Sullivan County Public Library has five locations to serve the community. LIBRARY NEWS We are one month into Summer Reading: Unearth a Story, but you can still sign up at scpltn.readsquared.com. Summer reading is not just for kids. It's for all ages! Get rewarded for your minutes read this summer! Already participating? Be sure to sign up for our finale at Camp Placid in Blountville on Friday, July 31, from 4-6:30 p.m. You just have to have entered some reading minutes into Read Squared to be eligible to attend. FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS Summer Storytimes - Geared toward preschoolers and those in early elementary. Kids can come listen to read-alouds (that count toward their summer reading goal), do an activity and learn all about the week's topic - Even More Dinosaurs! Blountville - Monday at 2 p.m. and Friday at 10:30 a.m. Thomas Memorial - Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. Bloomingdale - Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Colonial Heights - Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Story Explorers Summer Reading Program - Geared toward mid elementary and early middle school ages. We'll "unearth" various topics through fun activities that involve art and science. Each week is a different topic. This week's topic is - Archosaurs: Birds and Crocodilians. Thomas Memorial - Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Bloomingdale - Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Colonial Heights - Thursday at 3 p.m. Blountville - Friday at 2 p.m. Sullivan Gardens will have a combined-age Summer Storytime on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. - Baby Bookworms at the Bloomingdale branch. For infants through age 2 and their grown-ups. This week's theme is: Back to the Ice Age! Tuesday at 3 p.m. - Read to a Therapy Dog at the Colonial Heights branch. Therapy dogs JB and Jackson are available by appointment between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to listen to young readers as they practice their new skills. To schedule your child's 15-minute appointment to read to JB or Jackson, call 423-239-1100 or sign up online. Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. - Lego Club at the Sullivan Gardens library. Kids of all ages can channel their inner Master Builder to create fun Lego designs. Lego bricks and books will be provided, but brick donations are welcome. Tuesday at 4 p.m. - From Page to Panel Graphic Novel Book Club at the Blountville branch. We will look at graphic novels that started their lives as juvenile fiction titles. For ages 8-12. Wednesday at 2 p.m. - Melody Makers at the Colonial Heights branch. Come learn about different instruments and make your own to take home. For ages 8-12. Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Egg Carton Geodes at the Thomas Memorial branch. Turn ordinary egg cartons into dazzling crystal treasures. Thursday at 3:30 p.m. - The Afternoon Crew at the Bloomingdale branch. Elementary and middle school kids are invited to play board games (including chess), card games or make crafts. Thursday at 3:30 p.m. - The American Girl Experience at the Thomas Memorial branch. Kids of all ages can come learn about Colonial America in a hands-on celebration of the Pleasant Company's American Girl, Felicity Book series. Friday at 11 a.m. - Kids' Fossil Dig at the Sullivan Gardens branch. Kids can dig up their own dinosaur at the "newly discovered" Sullivan Gardens dig site. This program is recommended for ages 6-12. All materials will be provided. Registration is required. Friday at 3:30 p.m. - Gold Star Book Club at the Colonial Heights branch. For kids ages 8-12. This month's book is "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" by Chris Grabenstein. Saturday, July 11, at 11 a. m. - Egg Carton Geodes at the Thomas Memorial branch. Saturday, July 11, at 1 p.m. - Hands On! Regional Museum at the Blountville library — Dinosaurs! Staff from the Hands On! Discovery Center will be at the Blountville branch library to teach us about fossils, paleontology and dinosaurs that roamed in our area millions of years ago. Touch real fossils and put your paleontologist skills to work during this exciting program. Registration is required. FOR ALL AGES Tuesday at 11 a.m. - Garden Club at the Blountville branch's Community Garden. For all ages. On Tuesdays we get our hands dirty in the garden. Come help us dig, maintain and plant our community garden. Thursday at 4 p.m. - Garden Club Class: Homemade Organic Fertilizer at the Blountville branchy. Ever wanted to grow prize-winning vegetables without spending a dime? Join us this Thursday for a brief introduction to garden fertilizing at home! FOR ADULTS AND TEENS Geri Fit is a fitness program designed exclusively for older adults and those with physical disabilities. Geri-Fit is offered at our Thomas Memorial branch on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. It is also offered at our Blountville branch on Mondays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Gentle Chair Yoga is an adapted yoga practice that allows you to stay seated while practicing yoga focused poses. Chair Yoga is offered at the Thomas Memorial branch on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., at the Blountville branch on Mondays at 3:30 p.m., and at the Colonial Heights branch on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. The Bloomingdale branch offers this program on Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. at the Bloomingdale Baptist Shelter Building. Tuesday at 6 p.m. - Zumba! with Christina at the Blountville branch. You can also Zumba on Zoom! Just call by the Monday before class to receive a Zoom link. Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. - Adult Knit and Crochet Group. All skill levels welcome. (This is not an instructional event.) Saturday, July 11, at 11:30 a.m. - Saturday Brunch Club at the Colonial Heights branch. Learn new recipes and make new friends at our brunch club! Each month we will choose a cookbook and pick a recipe to make and bring to the next meeting. Please RSVP to let us know what dish you plan to bring. This month's book is "The Brunch Club: Delicious Recipes and Hosting Tips for Feeding Friends" by Georgia Hearn. The book will be available in the branch to thumb through, then visit the desk or RSVP online to tell us what you plan to bring.
