Kingsport report: Single family home permits lead for June

KINGSPORT — The city of Kingsport issued 35 permits for June, according to the building department's latest reports. Combined, the estimated construction costs for permits for the month are valued at $8,974,771 — with two permits issued in the Hawkins County portion of Kingsport. This number is down from June 2025's total of 58 permits and is the same as the 35 permits issued in May 2026. It is also down from the 40 permits issued by the city in June 2024. Residential Residential-related permits had the highest number of all permits issued, totaling 29 of the 35 permits. New residential, specifically for single family detached homes, led with 17 permits. Six home addition permits were filed — with four related to residential decks and one for a porch. One residential permit was solely listed as an addition with no other subtype information. Three repair/remodel permits were part of the residential permits. Others in the residential category included one pool permit, one demolition permit and one accessory structure permit. The estimated construction costs from residential permits for the month are valued at $5,835,970. Commercial Six commercial-related permits were issued, with five being for repair/remodel. Of the five repair/remodel, four were listed as commercial subtypes and one was noted as industrial. There was one permit issued for an accessory structure. Estimated construction costs for these permits are valued at $3,138,801.
