Report: Single-family home permits lead in Kingsport for August

KINGSPORT — The city of Kingsport issued 37 permits for August, according to the building department's latest reports. Combined, the estimated construction costs for permits for the month were valued at $8,723,515 — with one permit issued in the Hawkins County portion of Kingsport. That number is down from August 2025's total of 54 permits but is an increase from the 29 permits issued in July 2026. It marks a decrease from the 57 permits issued by the city in August 2024. Residential-related permits had the highest number of all permits issued in July 2026, totaling 32 of the 37 permits. New residential, specifically single-family detached homes, led with 14 permits. One manufactured/modular home permit was issued during the month. Seven residential repair/remodel permits were issued, along with five additions (one of those for a residential deck). There were three accessory structure permits issued: two for carports and one for a detached garage. One demolition and one in-ground pool permit was issued in August, as well. Overall, the estimated construction costs for residential permits in August were valued at $7,131,946. Non-residential permits There were five non-residential permits issued during the month. Three of those were repair/remodel permits, one for an accessory structure and another was an institutional permit. Estimated construction costs for these permits were valued at $1,591,569. Eastman Road, with construction costs for the permit valued at $700,000.
