Rogersville to apply for sidewalk grant down Park Boulevard

ROGERSVILLE — The Rogersville Board of Mayor and Aldermen agreed to apply for a sidewalk grant near the park at a meeting Tuesday night. The project would build a bicycle and pedestrian sidewalk down Park Boulevard connecting to East Main Street, among other improvements. It is estimated to cost $1.5 million. The grant would come from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The board tentatively committed in the application 20% of the cost, or $300,000, from local funds. They would still need to pass a resolution formally committing any money before the end of this calendar year. TDOT announces recipients in the spring. The local funds would be pulled from the 2027-28 budget at the earliest. The board also passed resolutions to: apply for a federal grant with no local match to install bollards downtown renew a public purpose services agreement and lease with the Rogersville/Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce for the organization to use town-owned property at 110 E. Kyle St. amend the rules of order for BMA and committee meetings clarify and confirm the election of citizen members to the Rogersville Water Commission, and elect Jackie Charles to fill a vacancy. The board already has citizen members Mike Jarnagin and Chris Manis, the latter serving as chair. The BMA passed three ordinances on first reading to: restate, codify and amend the existing fireworks ordinances to regulate the sale, use, discharge and display of fireworks amend the intent and permitted uses of the town's medical-residential zoning district reestablish and regulate the Rogersville Water Commission's term limits
