Kingsport's Brickyard Village to open in October

KINGSPORT — A grand opening for Kingsport's Brickyard Village is planned for Oct. 10, according to a news release. The city's newest downtown neighborhood, adjacent to the Riverview community, will be open for tours during a public event that day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2054 Brickyard Park Drive. Guests will have the chance to tour Phase 1 homes and homesites, enjoy food from a local food truck, enter a giveaway and more. Phase 1 of Brickyard Village is said to include 32-single family homes and homesites across four modern farmhouse plans: the Aspen, Birch, Dogwood and Elm. The release states each has four bedrooms, and sizes range from 1,728 to nearly 2,500 square feet. "Generations of Kingsport families worked on this site. Now it's where new families will put down roots," Michael Foley, principal of Humabuilt Development, said in the release. "Kingsport needs quality new housing, and we're proud to turn an unused industrial site into a walkable neighborhood connected to downtown." The neighborhood also sits next to Brickyard Park, which is a 43-acre park containing sports fields, trails, a skatepark and pump track. An ADA-accessible pedestrian bridge is planned to go over the CSX tracks — linking residents directly to downtown Kingsport. The 53-acre master plan includes a community pond, pocket parks and walking paths. History According to the release, Kingsport Brick Company opened on the site in 1910. General Shale operated it from 1928 until the plant closed in 2008. The Kingsport Economic Development Board acquired the property in 2017, with a groundbreaking that followed in October 2023. The project is considered a partnership between Humabuilt Development, KEDB, the city of Kingsport and the Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority.
