Q&A with Marc Bass, Church Hill alderman candidate

Marc Bass is running to be a Church Hill alderman. There are seven candidates running for three open seats with four-year terms. In addition to Bass, they are Ralph Little, Ken Luster, James Marsh, Michael Walker, Keith Bruner and Tim Lingerfelt. Q: What inspired you to run for this position? A: I'm running because infrastructure is crumbling and not getting attention is deserves. Some roads have been approved to be resurfaced but they are in center of town and is only due to upcoming election. Q: What experiences have prepared or qualified you for this position? A: I worked as a police officer for many years including as a detective which help me see the inner workings of the city and county, as well taught me how to deal with peoples problems and find solutions to the problems. Q: What are your top goals and priorities, if elected? A: My goals are to bring the City into the modern age of technology by live streaming all meetings, updating City Website, work fixing infrastructure, obtaining grants to upgrade City services. Q: What do you believe are the strengths and weaknesses of your town's Board of Mayor and Aldermen? What does this governing body do well, and how could it improve? A: Boards weakness is some don't represent the people only self interests. Having a strong Mayor is a weakness due to only one person making decisions instead of all elected representatives. Most board members are approachable and will listen to concerns. The governing body has kept our tax base low and the city out of debt. Q: What issues do you feel are most important to residents, and how do you plan to connect with constituents and address their concerns? A: I feel the infrastructure is the main issue in this city. We cannot attract new businesses with failing roads parks etc. We can connect better with citizens by updating our web page, telling them better ways to connect with City officials.
