Theater, Legos, Chess Club and more at Johnson City Library

Here's a look at what is happening this week at the Johnson City Public Library. FOR ALL AGES A commedia dell' arte performance put on by students in ETSU's Department of Theatre and Dance will be held Monday at 5 p.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. The free show is open to all ages. Commedia dell' arte is a style of improv featuring a cast of characters and scripted scenarios. No registration. FOR CHILDREN Babies & Books will meet Tuesday at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. It is recommended for ages birth-2 years and their caregivers. No registration but space is limited; pick up a ticket at the Children's Desk when you arrive. Read & Romp will meet Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Library's Jones Meeting Center. It is recommended for ages 2-3 years and their caregivers. The program includes music and shorter stories. No registration. Little Listeners will meet Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. in the library's Storytime Room. It is recommended for ages 3-5 years and their caregivers. No registration but space is limited; pick up a ticket at the Children's Desk when you arrive. Little Musicians will meet Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. Ages 3-5 will learn about music from Johnson City Symphony Orchestra members. No registration. Art Explorers will meet Friday at 4 p.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. Ages 8-12 will learn about an art style and a famous artist from history, then create their own artwork in the featured style. Registration is required at jcpl.org/events. Building with the Lions will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Kids of all ages and families can drop by the library's Jones Meeting Center to build with Legos and other materials. No registration. FOR TEENS Teen Yoga will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. Ages 12-18 will explore breath and movement through yoga basics led by Library Director Julia Turpin. Bring a yoga mat if possible. Registration is required at jcpl.org/events. Teen Book Club will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. Ages 12-18 will discuss "Turtles All the Way Down" by John Green. The first 10 teens who register will get a free copy of the book to keep. Registration is required at jcpl.org/events. FOR ADULTS Adults with Disabilities Storytime will meet Monday at 11 a.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. Adults with disabilities and their caregivers will hear stories and do activities. No registration. When to Claim Social Security with Talley Wealth will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. Talley Wealth CEO David Talley will explain how to claim your benefits and give valuable insight to help people make informed decisions about their financial future. Registration is required at jcpl.org/events. Spanish at Your Library will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. Anyone ages 18 and older can join the conversation group to practice Spanish language. All skill levels are welcome. The group meets in the library's Jones Meeting Center. No registration. Fiber Arts Group will meet Friday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Ages 18 and older can bring a knitting, crocheting, weaving or sewing project to work on in the library's Jones Meeting Center. No registration. Chess Club will meet Friday at 5 p.m. in the library's Jones Meeting Center. All skill levels are welcome; ages 18 and older can learn the basics or more advanced strategies. No registration.
