Hampton girls move past host Happy Valley at Valley Forge Classic

ELIZABETHTON — The Hampton girls basketball team knocked off host Happy Valley, 55-39, at the Valley Forge Auction Thanksgiving Classic on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs (2-2) trailed 11-9 after one quarter, but jumped ahead of the Lady Warriors 25-16 by halftime and 45-27 after three periods en route to a 16-point victory. Hannah Smith paced Hampton with 19 points. Gracie Jenkins and Daisy Parks contributed 10 points apiece. Happy Valley shot just 26.9% from the floor and was 2 for 10 from beyond the arc. Cloudland 55, Unicoi County 39 ELIZABETHTON — The Lady Highlanders (3-1) trailed early but rallied back against the Lady Blue Devils (2-3) at the Valley Forge Auction Thanksgiving Classic on Friday at Happy Valley High School. Makinna Shell led the game with 21 points for Cloudland. The Lady Highlanders also were led by Regan Blair (11 points), Eowyn McCoury (nine) and Jayla Harper (eight). Brooklynn Sparks paced Unicoi County with 15 points. Also contributing were Kaley Toney (seven points), Laney Rogers (six) and Danika Hendricks (five). Cherokee 64, South Greene 32 RUTLEDGE — The Lady Chiefs (5-0) remained undefeated by doubling up the Lady Rebels (1-3) at the Pizza Plus Classic at Grainger High School on Friday. Kenady Deal scored a game-high 21 points to lead Cherokee to the victory. Addie Lawson (11 points) and Rylee Sweet (10) joined her in double figures. Chloe Pearson (eight points) and Francesca Barbanente (seven) were other top contributors. Regan Arrowood (nine points) and Kortney Bailey (seven) led South Greene. Northview Academy 68, Elizabethton 46 RUTLEDGE — The Lady Cyclones (3-2) trailed the Lady Cougars (4-0) most of the way in Friday's loss in the Pizza Plus Classic at Grainger High School. Addison Bunn knocked down a 3-pointer in each period to finish with a team-high 18 points for Elizabethton. Rylee May added 10 points and Jamira Smalls supplied six more. Northivew Academy had a quartet in double figures, including Natavia Alber (17 points), Kiley Norwood (16), Mikinna Russell (15) and Savannah Clifford (11). BOYS Unaka 60, Grainger 57 (OT) RUTLEDGE — The Rangers (4-2) clipped the host Grizzlies (1-4) in the Pizza Plus Classic on Friday, turning a one-point halftime deficit into a three-point overtime victory. John Hardin did most of the damage for Unaka with 24 points. He was joined in double figures by Zach Wallin (11). Aiden Walsh and Cooper Smith scored eight points each. The starting five did all of the scoring for Grainger with Carter Williams (14 points), Jackson Trent (14), Parker Creswell (14), Kade Williams (eight) and Carver Turley (seven). Tellico Plains 65, Science Hill 56 ATHENS — Rylan Woods tallied 25 and eight rebounds as the Bears (4-1) clawed their way past the Hilltoppers (1-2) in the McMinn County Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday. Kinley Atkins scored 22 points, including going 11-for-11 at the free-throw line, and had a team-best nine rebounds for Tellico Plains. Trevor Gibler added 13 points for the Bears. Stephen Hensley was Science Hill's leading scorer with 17 points. Eli Patton was next with nine points. Darian Jackson and Jabriel Fain both scored eight points and dished out three assists. Morristown West 70, Elizabethton 64 RUTLEDGE — The Cyclones (3-2) fell to the Trojans (3-2) in the Pissa Plus Classic at Grainger High School on Friday, trailing by single digits after all four quarters. Evan Chambers set the pace for Elizabethton with 23 points. He was joined in double figures by Hudson Pate and Nathan Bailey, who scored 11 points apiece. Jackson Buckles added eight points in the loss. Jamere Williams (23 points) and Julian Sexton (22) paced Morristown West.
